Collections of Moments
Magical Realism
This exhibition depicts the artist Youjeong Kwon’s realm of magical realism. The way magic can overturn reality, the artist selects and collects unique moments from reality, then reconfigures them in a fantastical manner. Under the notion of magical realism that “magic becomes reality, and reality becomes magic,” the artist confesses shows the subtle and overlooked moments often overlooked in everyday life and transmutes them into visual poetry. The artworks blend reality with reverie, and tangibility with abstraction coalesce, offering an enchanting experience to the observer.
Momentous Collection and Archiving
The exhibition seamlessly transitions the sphere of momentous collection, a collection of moments and their archiving. The artist treasures and gathers the ordinary moments that are easily missed in our daily lives, transforming them into artworks. Moments such as that of the sunset’s last glow, the changing colors and shapes of shifting clouds, and the serene reading time are captured by the artist’s eyes and are expressed on canvas. This collection of moments is meant to be an immersive experience, where unnoticeable beauty is discovered, new inspirations are found, and a deeper self-awareness is attained. This archive, infused with the artist’s experiences and emotions, offers the viewers the opportunity to reflect on their precious moments, fostering communication through empathy.
Magical Realism and Momentous Collection
The exhibition marks the convergence of magical realism and the collection of moments. The artist incorporates these inspirations into artworks, deconstructing the boundaries between reality and imagination, as well as existence and non-existence, through geometric compositions. These artworks invite the viewers to take time for new perspective, offering a journey to discover personal meaning and connections through moments.
마법적 사실주의의 세계
이번 전시는 마법적 사실주의의 세계를 그립니다. 작가는 마법이 현실을 뒤집어 놓듯, 일상의 특별한 순간들을 선택하고 수집하여 이를 환상적으로 재해석합니다. 마법적 사실주의라는 말처럼 ‘마법은 현실이 되고, 현실은 마법이 된다.’는 표어 아래, 보통의 일상 속에서 쉽게 놓치는 미묘한 순간들을 고백하고 그 아름다움을 시각화합니다. 작품들은 현실과 가상, 실재와 비실재가 어우러져 마법과도 같은 환상 경험을 선사합니다.
순간의 수집과 아카이브
전시는 순간의 수집과 아카이브의 세계로 이어집니다. 작가는 보통의 일상에서 놓치기 쉬운 순간들을 마치 보물처럼 수집하며, 이를 작품으로 표현합니다. 해질녘의 마지막 빛, 변화하는 구름의 색과 형태, 조용한 독서 시간과 같은 삶의 단상들을 포착하고 그만의 아름다움을 표현하여 하나의 작품으로 거듭납니다. 이 수집은 한 순간의 몰입으로서 평소 잘 눈에 띄지 않는 일상의 아름다운 단면을 찾아내고 새로운 영감을 발견하며 자아를 깨닫게 합니다. 작가의 경험과 감정이 담긴 이 아카이브는 관람객들에게 소중한 순간을 돌아보는 기회를 제공하고 소통을 이끌어냅니다.
마법적 현실주의의 만남

권유정 작가는 미국 시카고 예술대학(School of Art Institute of Chicago, SAIC)에서 Painting and Drawing 학사, 영국 왕립예술학교(Royal College of Art, RCA) Painting 석사 학위를 취득하고 활동중인 예술가입니다. 그의 작품은 일상에서 발견할 수 있는 이야기를 매직 리얼리즘으로 표현해 현실화합니다. 작가는 예술적 역량을 인정받아 미국, 영국, 홍콩, 한국 등 다양한 국가의 갤러리와 아트페어에 작품을 소개하며 활동했고, Riverlight에서 주최하는 Lobby Awards 등 권위있는 대회에서 다수의 수상 경력이 있습니다.
권유정 작가의 작품은 고요한 아름다움과 일상에서 놓치기 쉬운 중요한 순간들을 매직 리얼리즘의 시각으로 표현하며, 이를 통해 관객들과의 감정적 소통을 이루어냅니다. 그의 예술은 현실과 상상의 경계를 모호하게 만들어 새로운 시각을 제시하며, 관객들에게 미학적인 탐구의 기회를 제공합니다.
