Sung Bok Lee
Sung Bok Lee is an artist who simulate the manipulation of the symbol systems. He focuses on the alterability and the relativity of the symbol systems, and presents new decimal number symbols that can replace the Arabic numbers. His newly designed number symbol is called ‘Gradation Number’. Gradation Numbers have long and short tick marks in 36-degree increments in the circular structure. While simulating the manipulation of the symbol system, Sung Bok Lee induces a question about the influence of the symbol system on the human cognitive function.

이성복은 ‘기호 체계의 조작’을 실험하는 작가다 그는 기호 체계가 갖는 가변성과 상대성에 초점을 맞추어, 아라비아 숫자 기호 체계를 대체하는 새로운 10진수 숫자 기호들을 고안하여 제시한다 그가 새롭게 디자인한 숫자 기호는 ‘Gradation Number’로 명명된다. ‘Gradation Number’는 원 구조 안에 길고 짧은 눈금들이 36도씩 돌아가며 배치되어 10진수를 표기하는 방식이다. 이성복은 기호 체계의 조작을 시뮬레이션 하면서, 기호 체계가 인간의 인지 작용에 미치는 영향력에 대한 물음을 유도한다.
