한글은 선이고 그림이고 건축이다
오랫동안 동양적 미감을 바탕으로 한 서체 조형에 대한 관심을 가지고 작업을 해왔다. 최근 한글을 소재로 하여 한글의 미감에 대한 새로운 접근을 시도해 오고 있다. 그 과정에서 한글이 내포하고 있는 조형미의 무한한 가능성을 찾아낼 수 있었다. 한글이 가지고 있는 다양한 조형미는 나의 작품 속에서 새로운 모습으로 탄생되고 있다. 다양한 형태의 실험적 작업을 거쳐 완성된 작품 속에서 ‘한글은 선이고, 그림이고 건축이다’라는 문구의 조형미를 발견하게 되었다.
유려한 선적 요소를 품은 서체 조각으로 국제적인 미술현장에서 큰 주목을 받은 바 있었다. 해외에서 비중 있는 아트페어에 20회 이상 참가하는 과정에 현대미술의 흐름과 동향을 파악하고, 우리의 미감을 바탕으로 한 조형적 요소가 해외 무대에서 경쟁력을 크게 가질 수 있다는 것을 알게 되었다. 이제, 세련된 한글의 조형미를 바탕으로 한 작품을 통해 시대를 초월한 절대적 미감을 담고 있는 한국의 미를 세계에 알리고자 또 다른 준비를 하고 있다.
이번 개인전에서 보여지고 있는 작품은 한글 ‘우리’의 조형성을 바탕으로 하고 있으며 선적 그림적 그리고 건축적 요소를 품고 있다. ‘우리’라는 낱말은 ‘나’를 비롯한 주변 모든 사람들과 그 시간을 어우를 수 있는 말로, 화합적 메시지와 공동체적 삶의 의미를 전달하고 있다. 한글이 내포하고 있는 다양한 조형적 특성은 시대를 초월한 절대적 미감을 표현 할 수 있는 세련된 요소를 품고 있다.
작가는 2000년도부터 문자의 동양적 미감에 대한 조형작업을 바탕으로 다양한 형태의 실험적 작업을 했으며, 2010년부터 한글을 바탕으로 작업을 해오고 있다. 홍익대학교 미술대학 조소과, 상명대학원 예술대학원에서 조각을 전공했으며 9회 개인전을 개최했다. ‘OLYMPIC FINE ARTS 2008’ 에 초청 받았으며 ‘ART COLOGNE’ , ‘ART CHICAGO’ 등 국제아트페어에 참가했다. ‘Shanghai International Biennial Urban Sculpture Exhibition2005’ ‘Other Languages Special Exhibition of Korea-Dakar Biennale 2018′. ‘‘2022 Hangang Sculpture Project, 낙락유람(樂樂遊覽)’ 등 국내외 전시에 참여했다.
Fascinated for decades with calligraphic sculptures based on oriental aesthetic senses, the artist has created dozens of works focusing on calligraphy. Recently she has been attempting to explore the sense of beauty of Korean alphabet(Hangeul) working on with the alphabet letters. In the process, she could figure out the infinite potentials of beauty of sculpture implied in Hangeul.
A variety of aesthetics of sculpture involved in Hangeul are being newly embodied in her works. In her pieces completed through diverse types of experimental trials is found the modeling beauty of the phrase pronounced ‘Hangeul is a line, drawing, and architecture.’
Her works would receive much attention at the international exhibits due to the calligraphic sculptures incarnating fluent and elegant linear elements. While exhibiting her pieces more than twenty times at significant art fairs abroad, she could figure out the change and trend of the modern art. Furthermore, she came to realize that sculptural elements based on Korean sense of beauty could be competitive enough at international scenes.
Now, she is preparing another approach to let the world taste the Korean beauty containing the all-time absolute aesthetics through works based on sophisticated modeling beauty of Hangeul.
The works displayed at this private exhibition are based on the moulding of ‘우리(We)’ in Hangeul, embodying the linear, pictorial, and architectural elements.
‘우리(We)’ is an expression that combines ‘me’ and people around me and our time, delivering the message of harmony and the meaning of communal living.
A variety of sculptural traits involved in Hangeul harbour sophisticated elements that can express the all-time absolute aesthetics. The artist has created various types of experimental works based on the sculptures regarding the oriental calligraphic aesthetics since 2000, working on with Hangeul letters since 2010. She studied in the department of Sculpture at College of Fine Arts, Hongik University and specialized in sculpture at Graduate School of Arts, Sangmyung University. She has held nine private exhibitions. She was invited to ‘OLYMPIC FINE ARTS 2008’ and participated in several international art fairs including ‘ART COLOGNE’ and ‘ART CHICAGO’. She also participated in a number of domestic and overseas exhibitions such as ‘Shanghai International Biennial Urban Sculpture Exhibition 2005’, ‘Other Languages Special Exhibition of Korea-Dakar Biennale 2018′, and ‘2022 Hangang Sculpture Project, Enjoyable Tour’.
