EUROPA
EUROPA is an NFT project that is created in collaboration with Jonas Kasper Jensen (the artist), A computer (AI) and collectors.
In 2002, I photographed this small city in Germany. The city was always empty on Sundays, and I would go there and walk around the empty streets, documenting how the city looked barren of people. I am not from Germany and did not know the city, so my camera and I learned about it together through our shared lens.
Nearly 20 years later, I had the opportunity to share my documentation of this small German city with an AI, and the AI interpreted the experience in a new way. The AI-generated images are uncannily authentic, as if the machine has created a whole new city that is almost but not quite the city my camera and I experienced decades earlier. The cityscapes generated reimagine how this city may look in the future and interpret the key stylistic aspects of classical European cities.
Through “Europa,” I invited collectors to create this city with me and the machine. Together, we will make the 200 images that comprise EUROPA.
Collectors can mint works from Europa directly into their Ethereum Blockchain wallet. This creates a situation where the work is composed of both the artist, the AI and the collectors.
For EUROPA four minted works are shown together with a series of iterations of the AI interpretation of the photographs of the city.
