숨바긁질
사람들은 자신의 마음을 숨기고 싶어 하면서 한편으로 다른 누군가에게 드러내 보이고 싶어 한다. 어떤 때에는 숨바꼭질처럼 자신이 숨긴 마음을 누군가 찾아내 ‘들키기’를 바란다. 이는 자신의 진심을 전하고 싶지만, 전해진 진심이 가지게 될 무게를 견뎌낼 자신이 없기 때문일 것이다. 드러내든 숨기든 이런 마음은 결국 우리를 괴롭히고, 차라리 끝까지 숨겼다면, 차라리 그때 다 말해버렸다면 후회만 되뇌게 만든다. 나는 칠하고 다시 덮어내고, 또다시 긁어 드러내는 스크래치 아트 기법을 이용해 드러낼지 숨길지 두 갈래의 길에서 고민하는 사람들에게 ‘숨기고 드러낸다/드러내고 숨긴다’라는 새로운 선택지를 제시한다.
이번 전시는 작가 개인의 감정을 숨기면서 드러내는 ‘HIDE & SCRATCH’와 현대 남성의 남성성은 무엇인지, 또 무엇이 되어야 하는지를 고민한 ‘OBNOXIOUS MANHOOD’, 끝나지 않는 판데믹 상황을 표현한 ‘LOVE & PANDEMIC’으로 구성되었다.
흐릉르우
흐릉르우는 한디원에서 디자인과 일러스트레이션을 배우면서 스크래치 아트 기법을 활용한 작품을 만들기 시작했다. 현재 울산에서 스크래치 기법의 새로운 재료 연구와 작품 활동을 이어 나가고 있다.
HIDE & SCRATCH
Sometimes, We want to hide our feelings, but also want to show them to others. And sometimes, Like playing hide-and-seek, we want someone to find our hidden hearts and get them “Caught”. I think the reason for this behavior is because we want to tell our true hearts, but are not prepared enough to bear the weight of the truth conveyed. Whether it is revealed or hidden, this kind of mind eventually torments us and makes us regret what if we hid it until the end, or told it back then. I propose a new option of ‘hide, but also reveal (and vice versa).’ to those who are debating on whether to reveal or hide by using the scratch art technique of painting, covering again, and scratching again to partially reveal.
This exhibition contains three parts. ‘HIDE & SCRATCH’ is showing/hiding the painter’s hearts and emotions. ‘OBNOXIOUS MANHOOD’ is about modern masculinity; what are ‘real men’ now days, and what has to be. And lastly, ‘LOVE & PANDEMIC’ is a personal take on the current pandemic.
HuRungLou
HuRungLou(HRL) is a scratch art painter based in Korea. HRL started making works using scratch art techniques while learning design and illustration major at Han-sung University Design & Arts Institute. HRL is currently live in Ulsan, making scratch art and experimenting with new materials for scratch art.
