    Walking through Paper stacks

In my solo exhibition at CICA, I invite you to experience my drawing installation “Walking through Paper stacks” as part of Gallery 3A.

The drawings are based on my encounters with paper stacks in certain parts of the city, where the thin piece of paper gets powerful in its collectivity. In small spaces, in narrow streets and areas, the paper stacks take solid formations, and reminds us of the history and culture, solid as the bedrock beneath Seoul.

“Walking through Paper stacks” is a continuation of my drawing installation “Room of Stacked Paper” which I made for the duo-exhibition at Gallery Jiwooheon in May 2023.

For the installation in Gallery 3A at CICA Museum, I use the potential of the gallery to expand my experience from the city. By repetitive use of stacked lines in my drawings, my paper stacks are created in over sized formats over rows of paper sheets. By doing this, I hope to pass on my experience of a place to the viewer and visitor of the gallery.

Working across media, which encompass photography, site specific installations, drawings and sculptural objects, Helene Koch explores what often goes by unnoticed. Through places and through time. Whether it is the detail of a space or the fraction of a moment which describes the margins of our lives.

Helene Koch was born 1979, in Copenhagen, Denmark. She holds a Master in Architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art. She currently lives and works in Seoul, South Korea.

Helene Koch has recently been taking part in the duo exhibition “Like dissolves like” at Gallery Jiwooheon, in Seoul, KR. Her work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Miami, London, Vilnius, New York and Copenhagen.
