When a girl runs through the forest,
her white dress swaying with her long hair—
What is the story behind it?
When an old lady drags her red trolley basket
through the market, passing silently by—
What is the story behind it?
When a group of people march in the streets,
under the bright sun, shouting for freedom—
What is the story behind it?
I am not just an artist.
I am an artisan, crafting glass—
transparent and lucid, reflecting truths back to people,
while letting them see themselves clearly.
Each person is a comet, streaking across the vast universe,
leaving traces of light and shadow behind.
I draw the lines between them,
uncovering the hidden stories that bind us together.
I collect their whispers, their secrets, their struggles—
and bury them deep in the soil as seeds of creation.
Day by day, I nurture these seeds:
with installations, with media,
with text and sound, with movement and light.
My work becomes a mirror—
confronting judgment, rejection, laughter—
transforming them into weapons of resistance and empowerment.
In the end, my practice is a commitment:
to build spaces that reveal our raw, unpolished truths,
calling for action, empathy, and understanding.
Kid, let’s fight like Bonnie and Clyde.
Yixin Wang is a performance artist, actor, and teaching artist based in Los Angeles. Originally from China, she is passionate about creating work that transcends and bridges cultures and languages. Pursuing her artistic career as a BIPOC artist has given her a distinct perspective on identity. Her work merges traditional Asian culture with modern Western values, exploring crossovers between multimedia and installation art. Her fascination with the interplay of form and content also informs her theater practice, where she approaches working with movement from the perspective of an investigator—opening up the seams of both the story and the theatrical form in which it unfolds. Her personal works have been performed at La MaMa (New York), Lincoln Center (New York), and The Actors Company (Los Angeles). Acting credits include “Men on Boats” (Semel Theatre, Boston), “KODAMA” (American Film Institute, Los Angeles), “Street Fighter” (New Generation Pictures, Los Angeles), “The Three Golden Flowers” (Elite Performing Arts Group, Los Angeles), and “Sexual Enlightenment” (Beijing Film Academy, China). Among these, “KODAMA” and “Sexual Enlightenment” have earned accolades at festivals, including the 2023 Korea International Short Film Festival (Winner), the 2023 New York International Film Festival (Winner), the 21st Miami Short Film Festival (Finalist), and the 25th Rhode Island International Film Festival (Semi-Finalist). “The Three Golden Flowers” has also been featured by prominent media outlets, including China Daily, Toutiao, and Phoenix Television. Her recent work, “Are You the Last Slice?,” was selected for Mark DeGarmo Dance’s 15th Anniversary Virtual Salon Performance Series for Social Change 2025, which was showcased in April 2025.
