he Artist Statement Book Series by CICA Museum features artist’s statements of visual artists from around the world.

Artist Statement 또는 Artist’s Statement (아티스트 스테이트먼트)란 작품에 대한 이해를 돕기 위해 작가의 영감, 아이디어 및 작품 세계를 서술한 글이다. Artist Statement는 미국의 미술대학 및 미술계를 중심으로 1990년대부터 활발하게 쓰이기 시작했다. Artist Statement는 난해하고 개념적인 현대미술을 접근하기 위한 실용적인 “도구”이다. Artist Statement가 오히려 작품의 감상을 일정한 방향으로 국한할 수 있으며 작가의 자유로운 표현 방식을 저해한다는 비판적인 의견도 있지만, 제한된 2-4 문단의 글로 작가의 세계를 그려내는 한편의 시와도 같다는 점에서 작품 자체와 별개의 또 다른 매력이 있다.
CICA 미술관에서는 “Artist Statement” 전시 및 출판 시리즈를 통해 작가들의 최신 Artist Statement를 소개한다. Artist Statement #3는 Joseph Bigley, Kat Danziger, Krasi Dimtch, Kathryn Frund, Michael Gatzke, Vasile Ghiuta, Rebecca Hamlin Green, Gerald Hushlak, Joe Karlovec, Hyun Jung Lee, Yoonjung Lee, Stacy Lovejoy, Jill Christine Miller, Jihye Min, Saeed Mirzaei, Yelena Myshko, Sohhee Oh, So Jung Park, Santiago Penados, Jan Schekauski, RoByn Thompson, Hamish Todd, Agnes Wolkowicz, Anne Wölk를 포함한 24명의 전 세계 작가의 작품 및 영문 Artist Statement를 소개한다.
