The exhibition pairs a series of invented female characters with nostalgic or sentimental imagery, reframing aspects of daily life through a surreal feminine perspective. Featuring a selection of oil paintings, drawings, and ceramic sculptures, the exhibition strives to better understand the world by questioning who we are and why we exist.

Yerkezhan Abuova is a visual artist who works with a combination of painting, drawing, sculpture, and public art. Originally from Kazakhstan, Abuova moved to the United States during her early childhood and is now based in the greater Washington DC area. Her surreal artworks reflect reality through a whimsical lens, exploring the themes of memory, cultural histories, and femininity. Abuova received her BFA from Cornell University in 2023.
