    Human Nature

In Human Nature, the human body becomes a canvas where nature leaves its imprint, dissolving boundaries between the organic and the ephemeral. This exhibition explores the delicate interplay of identity, memory, and the natural world through layered, ethereal works that blend human forms with botanical imagery. Using muted blues, soft textures, and ghostly silhouettes, the pieces evoke fleeting moments of presence—traces of hands, faces, and natural forms that linger like echoes of the past. At the heart of the exhibition lies the question of interconnection: How do human lives reflect the cycles and fragility of nature? These works speak to the universality of decay and regeneration, capturing the quiet poetry of what it means to be both human and part of the natural world. The recurring motifs of hands, leaves, and flowers suggest themes of touch, growth, and the passage of time, while the dreamlike palette immerses viewers in a meditative space. Several cyanotype works in the exhibition carry an element of surprise—they have been exposed and treated but intentionally left unwashed. These pieces embody the ever-changing nature of life, gradually transforming over time. As they continue to react to light, their colors will shift, their forms will evolve, and their presence on the paper will deteriorate. By the end of the exhibition, they will appear noticeably different from how they began, mirroring the uncertainty and impermanence of life and the mind. This beautiful, organic process highlights the transient nature of existence, inviting viewers to witness change as it unfolds. Through these haunting and intimate creations, the exhibition offers a sensory and emotional journey—a reminder that, like flora, our own existence is both fragile and deeply rooted in the world around us.

Cristina Tofan is a Bucharest-based artist, illustrator, and graphic designer whose work explores the ephemeral nature of memory, emotion, and humanity’s connection to the natural world. Inspired by nature—her greatest teacher—she creates intimate, reflective pieces that capture fleeting moments and lingering emotions. A graduate of the Art University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Cristina combines her graphic design background with a poetic sensitivity. Known for her delicate illustrations, she has recently embraced cyanotype, allowing her works to evolve over time through light exposure. By leaving many cyanotypes unrinsed, she highlights the impermanence and transformation inherent in nature. Cristina has exhibited her work both in Romania and internationally, offering meditative, introspective pieces that celebrate the fragile interconnectedness between humanity and the earth.
