PRESENCE
At this exhibition, I present a series of works that depict the interaction between people. The series of paintings and drawings delves deeper into characters that reflect realities. The large head symbolizes the constant thought process, while the flexible, slow, and fluid body represents the lack of action. I see people spending a significant amount of time entertaining themselves by gathering to watch movies and having parties, but is it truly interesting to everyone? Or do they do it out of boredom and laziness, avoiding engaging in something more important?
Anna Salenko (b. 1990, Vladivostok, based in Hong Kong) seeks to create a human presence through her art. Inspired by daily encounters, she emphasises certain elements and utilises traditional oil painting techniques, paying homage to her cultural background.
Her unique style is a fusion of cultures and captures the intersection of the visible world with our inner thoughts and perceptions. Educated in Russia and Italy, Anna’s works have been widely exhibited around the world, including United States, Italy, France, the Netherlands, China, Japan. She has also participated in artistic residencies in New York and France, broadening her creative horizons.
I’m exploring human emotions and connections through my art. My project is based on my daily experiences of encountering invisible signals from people around me. I want to create a human presence without the need to depict it entirely. By portraying the body as a reflection of emotions, I often exaggerate certain elements to convey what concerns us.
