Yet to Come
Four chapters, “Central,” “Ceremony,” “Execution,” and “Repair,” depict surrealistic and futuristic scenarios in which human beings, as an intervention in nature, exploit their ambient environment, fellows, and spirit. Sumerian mythology believes that human beings do not originate from the earth: the Annunaki god creates humans to exploit golden metal resources on earth. Even though we named ourselves the human species as the most intelligent species on the planet, we were born into slavery.
If the four chapters are a narrative of human origins and the future, “Trap” reflects the current world. The influx of information overwhelms every individual. Outsiders and insiders restrict and promote each other, never succeeding in trespassing the barrier and consistently failing to name the intruder justly.
Common themes present in work are self-explanatory and open to the audience. I sincerely appreciate what you see, what you say, and what you feel.
“The best is yet to come” is a truth, yet a cliche. The best is currently on, continuously on, consistently on. Or the worst is yet to come. Or, the worst is currently on, continuously on, consistently on.
What you feel is real. See you later.
Chenyao He (Eva), born in 2001 in Shenzhen, China, currently studies at The Cooper Union in New York. Her discipline includes but is not limited to large- scale installations, performance art, and videos.
In Chenyao’s work, themes are self-explanatory based on shared knowledge. Interpretation is open to the audience. She believes what the audience feel is authentic. Verbosity is unnecessary.
Chenyao’s current ideas have been revised but not entirely discounted. She doesn’t know what she is thinking about. We’ll see.
