Verbal Communication
Project “Verbal Communication” is dedicated to the language, the intricate web of communication woven by humanity which is not merely a tool for conveying thoughts and ideas; it is a realm rife with paradoxes that challenge our understanding of reality and perception. Language is a unique medium that has a power to affect our motional states and dreams, can unite and separate, inspire and destroy.
At the heart of the project “Verbal Communication” lies the enigma of self-reference “This statement is false.” defying conventional notions of logic and truth and all other works spread from this central point. Three following paintings surrounding the shrine are representation of three theories of language acquisition: cognitive, inherent and socio cultural. All other works of the project are dedicated to the visual representation of the spoken language and my own experiences around communications with other beings.
I want to attract attention to that despite employing common linguistic conventions, individuals may interpret words and phrases differently based on their unique experiences and perspectives and it highlights the elusive nature of communication.
Main goal of my research is to explore the idea that language is not a static entity but a dynamic and multifaceted phenomenon. As we navigate the complexities of spoken language, we are confronted with the inherent ambiguity and uncertainty of human expression.
Yet, it is within this ambiguity that the beauty of language resides. Like a tapestry woven from threads of paradox, language invites exploration and interpretation, offering endless avenues for creativity and expression.
My works are inspired by my interests in philosophy, biology, chemistry and physics and my art is my way to make different concepts clearer for me and to attract to them the attention of my spectators. I would like to think that my works are part of the magical realism, but probably it is not true. In reality they are closer to surrealism, aleatoric or oneiric art. I surely hope that I will manage to create my own genre. I have been greatly inspired by Rene Magritte and M.C. Escher and I think they both influenced my style and my idea of what it is to be an artist. I love to read so I think my favorite writers influenced my style as well, especially Julio Cortazar, Herman Hesse,
Umberto Eco, Thomas Mann and Yasunari Kawabata.
Firstly I studied Philosophy in Moscow State University (MSU) which for ever changed my perception and gave me endless range of themes for contemplation. After finishing university, I moved to Paris and, there, I understood that the best way to express my ideas is art. I was taking various drawing courses at l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) and educated myself by getting acquainted with the masterpieces from Le Louvres, the museum of Cluny, the Quai d’Orsay, Pompidou Centre. I went through many different techniques but by the moment I am in love with ink pointillism.
I have been fortunate to exhibit my works in many of great art venues such as Grand-Palais of Paris in 2012, Vatican’s Palazzo Marescotti in 2013, Florence Biennale IX in 2013, Moscow MOMA with a Multimedia Project in 2014, Tokyo Art Fair in 2015, Hong Kong Asia Contemporary Art Fair in 2016, Brandenburg Gate of Berlin in 2017 and Hamburg’s Werkkunst Gallery in 2018.
