Familiar Strangers
These series of paintings are inspired by forms, space, and narratives of specific objects. Many of the works originate from drawings, which become manipulated with layers and transformed visually. The imaginary spaces are created while exploring to find ways to interpret the thoughts that the mind possesses. Oftentimes they look ambiguous but also familiar to the world that we live in.
어떠한 공간이나 그 공간을 이루고 있는 구성물을 보며 그들에게서 느껴지는 분위기와 감정에 집중해 작업한다. 공간과 사물에 쌓인 기억과 경험들, 겉으로 보이는 모습 너머의 이야기들을 표현하고, 그 과정에서 개인적인 추억과 의미 또한 담겨 시각화 된다. 단순한 드로잉에서 시작된 작업은 생각의 단계를 거치며 새로운 형태의 선과 색, 모양들로 발전되고, 완성된 작품 속에는 언어만으로는 표현할 수 없는 작가의 감정이 형상화 되는 지속적인 과정들이 담겨 있다.
Keerim Kim은 뉴욕의 Hunter College에서 순수미술을 전공하고, 뉴욕과 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 작가이다. 드로잉에서 출발해 추상과 구상의 경계를 잇는 회화 작업을 한다.
