The images of the work resemble the morphological characteristics of stone human. These ambiguous images wave on the audience not to judge easily whether the object is stone or human, and extend into a space of thoughts in which all boundaries have been erased. And finally these images lead people to get to the wider spectrum of thoughts which not only eliminates the boundary but also surpasses every limitation of thinking for illuminating the world with a new perspective ultimately.
이미지들은 돌과 인체의 형태적인 특성을 닮아있다. 그러한 모호한 이미지들은 대상이 돌인지, 사람인지 단정하지 못하게 함으로써 우리를 종의 경계가 지워진 사유의 영역으로 이끌어 간다. 이러한 새로운 사유의 영역은 세계를 다양하게 보는 방법을 보여주며, 기존의 경계를 넘어서 세상을 바라보도록 유도한다.
Over the past, humanity has been grappled to arrive at an agreement for establishing the absolute standard of species. Most people believe in evolution used to point the genetic similarity as a reference to its classification. However, this ambiguous and unclear concept is actually a ‘Fantasy’. This convenient but conventional wisdom that we had taken as general not only troubles people to argue over the issue of criterion on genetic similarity but also impedes our liberal and progressive steps toward the truth of the objects. Thus, I propose to throw off this chronic habit and leap across all concepts which have been restricted us so far. I wanted to get an image of a stone that looks close to the human figure. It is also another way of obtaining the image of human close to a shape of stone at the same time. And just for the record, This is an image free from the boundary of the all concepts of species as well.
종이라는 개념은 일종의 환상이다. 어디서부터 어디까지가 같은 종일까? 유전적 유사성을 가지고 같은 종이라고 말할 수 있을 것이다. 진화를 믿는다면 진화의 어느 지점부터 유전적 유사성을 가지고 있는 종이라고 말 할 수 있을까? 그 기준은 누가 정한 것일까? 그 기준은 모호하고 분명하지 않다. 인간이라는 종도 마찬가지이다. 우리는 이러한 개념을 가지고 생각을 하고 있다. 이러한 개념은 삶을 사는데 유용하고 편리하다. 하지만 새로운 세계를 보는 방식을 제시하지는 않는다. 나는 이러한 종이라는 개념을 뒤틀어 사람과 돌의 경계를 허뭄으로써 세계를 다르게 보는 법을 제시하고자 한다. 종적 개념에서 벗어나 다른 개념을 통해 다른 방식으로 세계를 바라볼 수 있도록 돕는 것이다. 나는 돌이 사람의 형상에 가까워 보이는 이미지를 얻고자 한다. 혹은 사람이 돌의 형상에 가까워 보이는 이미지를 얻고자 한다. 정확히 말해 다른 종과 종의 경계 사이가 아니라 그 경계가 지워진 이미지를 얻고자 한다.
My activities based on oriental painting usually center around the Seoul and Incheon. Most of my works affected by expressionism paintings and images which defined as ‘Tradition’ are coming and going over the landscape, digital printing and acrylic painting freely.
I’m currently in the process of focusing on topics-boundary, division, that sort of thing. But at the same time, I’m trying not to be chained to the meaning and context what I found from those too. Through this exhibition, I would like to share some delicate works of landscape which painted with fine brush.
동양화를 베이스로 인천과 서울을 중심으로 활동하고 있습니다. 표현주의 회화와 ‘전통’이라고 불리는 이미지들의 영향을 받아 산수화, 디지털 프린팅, 아크릴 페인팅 등의 작업을 진행하고 있습니다.
경계와 구분등을 주제를 가지고 작업을 하고 있습니다. 작업에 의미와 맥락을 가지고 있지만 그것을 붙잡으려 하지 않으려고 합니다. 이번 전시에서는 공필을 통한 산수화 이미지들을 보여드리고자 합니다.
