When I thought about the difference between photos and drawings I realized they are the same up to the point that they are just a collection of colors if I look at them without considering their culture and history.

In the process of cultural evolution we have associated colors with sensations; For example, people often associate blue with cold and red with hot. Similarly, the shapes and textures of objects affect people’s feelings.

The view of the observer is usually influenced by his own memory and evokes his impression of what he is seeing. For example, leaves remind us of blood vessels, a wall pattern of a face, sounds and smells can have the same effect. The impression depends on the observer.

People are often inspired by images. Religious iconography is a common form of this; especially in the Orthodox and Roman versions of Catholicism. To sum up, images are influential to our thoughts and emotions. A random combination of colors and shapes evokes our deep memories of a past event. That is truly a religious moment.

In Japan, the two major religions are Shinto and Buddhism. Generally, Japanese people are not considered religious in a western sense but most worship sacred places and respect the culture related to divine services. The Japanese believe that gods, spirits or souls dwell in objects and in nature surrounding us; for example trees, cars and rice…etc. There are many Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples and memorial monuments related to animism all over Japan. They remind us of those that went before us. My art is inspired by these aspects of Japanese religion. My work is formless and depends on prints, monitors or how we look. They do not always define one figure clearly. In the same way, sky, tree, stones and sacred monuments are also changing by nature and humans.
