Dust-free Chatroom
Mengda Zhang’s installation and performance, Dust-free Chatroom (previous name: Screen), 2018 was based on her three-week experience of working at the Foxconn Factory in Chengdu, China. As a worker in the assembly line for the new MacBook, her task was to check the screens and prepare the glue around the screen. As all the workers wore bunny suits and masks in the dust-free unit, Zhang was fascinated by the queer intimacy flowing between her co-workers’ eyes. She meditates around youth, desire, and indescribable nuances of those human beings within the anti-humanity utopia of industry 4.0.
