A4 O2O Project Experiment #1

Instruction-based art can be traced back to Conceptual Art in the 1960s. Now, in our digital age, instructions have become the fundamental structures of our systems: a chain of commands is instantly produced, and it becomes visible, tactile, and ubiquitous. We aim to be an “O2O (Online to Offline) system” that can produce “instructions” as art and make them come alive in our online and offline spaces. Featured works of the A4 O2O Project Experiment #1 include an installation work “Why is there something rather than nothing.” Following the experiment #1, the A4 O2O Show Spring 2016 will be held from April 14 to May 1, 2016, featuring 10 conceptual artists worldwide.

1960년대 개념미술이래로 인스트럭션을 기반으로 작품을 하는 시도는 꾸준히 있어 왔다. 한편 디지털 시대를 맞이하며 ‘인스트럭션,’ 즉 명령어 또는 지침서는 현대사회 시스템을 구축하는 중요한 근간이 되었다. ‘명령어’는 즉각적으로 생산되며, 실행되고, 존재하게 되며, 편재한다. A4 O2O 프로젝트는 아티스트의 ‘지침서’를 기반으로 온라인과 오프라인에 존재하게 하는O2O (Online to Offline) 시스템을 구축하고자 한다. A4 O2O 프로젝트 실험 #1에서는 인스톨레이션 작품 “왜 무(無)가 아니라 유(有)인가(Why is there something rather than nothing at all)“과 그 외 인스트럭션 베이스 작품을 소개한다. 실험 #1에 이어 오는 4월 16일부터 5월 1일까지 10명의 국내외 개념미술 작가의 인스트럭션을 소개하는 “2016 봄 A4 O2O 국제전”이 있을 예정이다.
