Gentle Whisper from:
The exhibition showcases breaking the boundaries of embroidery sculptures created by Yiling and her route of collecting her inner peace. “Ocean has always been an imagination of freedom to me” Ever since I delve into water, I feel the escape of my mind and thoughts which makes me finally able to breathe. Yiling collects movements of ocean on her way exploring the world, she takes the ocean as a metaphor representing her inner peace in different formats and visualises the movement through her embroidery sculpture. This exhibition portrays the imagination and observation of the ocean from different periods of her life – anxious, adventurous and peaceful. Yiling wishes people who encounter the exhibition will also be able to find their own inner peace in their own definition.
“I love to see the breathing space between stitches when creating textile pieces.” To Yiling, design is about freedom and transformation, embroidery should never be limited to solid boundaries. We create pieces by blending heritage and experimental approach, how the construct and deconstruct movement of embroidery threads can interact and reflect emotions with audiences. reinterpreting with freewill drawing and unconventional embroidery techniques and materials. My visionary approach to embroidery focuses on conventional boundaries between 2D and 3D embroidery; how embroidery as a soft material integrates with avant-garde materials such as resin to create 3D sculptural embroidery pieces, which forego the use of fabric to showcase the beauty of embroidery.
