내 인생에 반짝이는 점
A dot. A dot becomes a line, then a plane, then space. And eventually, it becomes a life. The universe began with a single dot. So did we. At the root of everything lies the atom—a tiny dot. I am a dot. We are dots. Among hundreds of billions of stars, and billions of galaxies, we are but a small existence. Yet within us are countless cells, neurons, and tissues—a universe grander than the one outside. Depending on where you place the reference point, you can become smaller than a speck of dust, or a being that holds and explores the cosmos. We live through interactions with countless other dots—people. And depending on our perspective, each of those dots holds a different meaning to us. Think of the sparkling moments in your life—the memories that shaped you. Layer by layer, those memory dots have made you who you are. And if those dots are rearranged, perhaps the “you” of today can also be transformed. I imagine the landscapes of memory—the natural world built from countless overlapping particles over time. Then, I zoom in, endlessly, to the smallest unit imaginable. The connections, interactions, and relationships between these dots are the world I live in—the world I am shaping.
점! 점이 모여 선이 되고, 면이 되고 공간이 된다. 그리고 삶이 된다 우주는 점에서부터 시작되었다. 우리도 점으로 시작되었다 이 세상의 근원은 원자라는 작은 점이다 나라는 점, 우리라는 점! 수천억 개의 별들, 그 별들이 모인 수천억 개의 은하 속 아주 작은 존재이고, 반면, 우리 몸을 이루고 셀 수 없이 많은 세포와 신경, 조직 등을 포함하고 있는 우주보다 큰 존재다 기준점을 어디에 두느냐에 따라 우리는 먼지보다 작은 존재가 되기도 하고 우주를 품은, 그리고 우주를 탐구해가는 큰 존재가 되기도 한다. 우리는 수많은 사람이라는 점들과 상호작용하며 살아간다 그 관계에 있어서 관점을 어디에 두느냐에 따라 각각의 점들은 나에게 다른 의미로 다가온다 살아오면서 중요했던, 기억에 남는 반짝이는 시점을 떠올려보자 기억의 장면들이 하나하나 쌓아져 내가 만들어졌다 기억의 점들이 지금의 나를 만들었다 그 기억의 점들이 재구성된다면 지금의 나도 달라질 수 있다. 반짝이는 점들의 연결이 달라지면 내 인생이 달라진다 긴 세월 입자들이 수없이 중첩된 자연, 그리고 내 기억의 풍경을 상상해 본다 상상으로 끝없이 확대하여 가장 작은 단위까지 봐 보았다 그 점들의 연결, 상호작용, 관계가 내가 사는 세상이다 내가 만들어가는 세상이다
Artist Jimin Song, who visualizes the mesh of virtual and physical spaces as a “network of relationships,” distills the world into its most fundamental unit: the dot (點·DOT). Life, with all its flowing vitality, begins with a dot— weaving a web of relationships that carries us into the present. Her works, composed of dozens of layered natural images, are transformed into digital dots through technology. These tiny particles, fragmented down to the scale of nano-atoms, take on the meaning of individual life forms and reemerge as interconnected dots. While reducing the visible world to its smallest unit—the dot—Song places both the beginning and end of existence on the same plane, drawing attention to the dot not merely as a form but as “circulating energy.” This energy reflects the outer structure of existence, echoing the cyclical nature of life. The exhibition’s title, “The Dot I Need in My Life,” arises from the artist’s desire to explore a simple yet profound principle: that the endless interactions of small yet infinite dots can encompass past–present–future, or here (the coordinates of existence)–Earth–Universe. In response to the future that artificial intelligence may bring, the artist traverses from analog painting to NFTs within the metaverse—realizing a multifaceted network of relationships that fluidly moves between virtual and physical realms. DANA’s aesthetics evoke Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, framing the human condition as a contrast between truth (Real/IDEA) and shadow (Reality/Virtuality). Through a worldview reduced to dots, the artist expresses her belief that art can draw closer to truth. The continuous questioning of life’s essence—and the pursuit of its answers—may be the very core of what she paints into each dot.
가상과 현실공간들 속에서 그물망을 ‘관계의 네트워크’로 표현한 송지민 작가는 세상의 기본 단위를 점(點·DOT)으로 환원한다. 점으로부터 시작된 생명의 흐름들이 삶을 만들고 관계의 그물을 엮어 오늘로 이어지기 때문이다. 수십 장의 자연 이미지가 합성된 작품들은 디지털 기술에 의해 점으로 변환되고, 나노 원자로까지 쪼개고 쪼개진 작디작은 단위들은 개별 생명체로 의미성을 갖고 다시 점으로 이어진다. 작가는 현실을 시각화한 최소단위를 점으로 환원하면서도, 존재의 시작과 끝을 동일 선상에 놓음으로써 점의 외적 구성인 ‘순환하는 에너지’에 주목한다. 전시 제목을 “내 인생에 필요한 점”이라고 설정한 이유도 무수히 작으면서도 무한히 큰 ‘점의 상호작용’을 통해 ‘과거-현재-미래’, 혹은 ‘여기(존재의 좌표)-지구-우주’를 포괄하는 단순 원리에 접근하기 위함이다. 작가는 최근 AI가 갖고 올 미래상에 주목하면서 아날로그 회화로부터 물성을 가로지른 메타버스 속 NFT까지, 가상과 현실을 오가는 ‘다채로운 관계망’을 작품세계에 구현한다. 플라톤의 ‘동굴에의 비유(Allegory of the Cave)’를 연상시키는 DANA 작가의 미학은 사회 속 인간의 모습을 진실(Real/IDEA)과 그림자(현실/가상)로 표현한 ‘인간의 본질’에 근거한다. 작가는 점으로 환원된 세계관을 통해 미술이 진실에 가까워질 수 있다고 믿는다. 삶의 본질에 끊임없는 질문을 던지고 그 답을 찾는 과정이 작가가 그려낸 점의 본질이 아닐까 한다.
