The Journey of Mikur 미쿠르의 여행
This work centers around a microorganism named ‘Mikur’, exploring the coexistence and interaction between humans, nature, and living beings. Mikur is not just a simple microorganism; it is depicted as an essential entity that connects the cycles of all life and nature. Through Mikur, the artist raises questions about how we should perceive microorganisms. After the COVID-19 pandemic, many began to associate microorganisms with threats and diseases. However, Mikur is not merely a ‘dangerous entity.’ Instead, it plays the role of a traveler who maintains the order of nature and facilitates the interactions between different forms of life. In this work, Mikur is intimately connected with all living beings on Earth, and its journey symbolizes the coexistence and ecological cycles that sustain life. Mikur’s journey is a dynamic one, symbolizing vitality and transformation. In the artworks, Mikur travels between nature and humans, interacting with various forms of life in a visually expressive way. This provides a new perspective on microorganisms and encourages a deeper understanding of the subtle yet vital aspects of nature that we may overlook or neglect. By observing Mikur’s active and cooperative approach to coexistence, the viewer is invited to reflect on how humans and nature can live in harmony and equality. Mikur, at the center of the harmonious cycle of nature, reminds us of the preciousness of life and the profound meaning hidden within it. “The Journey of Mikur” is an exhibition that redefines our relationship with nature and brings to light the essential interconnectedness in which all living beings depend on each other.
이번 작품은 **‘미쿠르’**라는 이름의 미생물을 중심으로, 인간과 자연, 생명체들 간의 공존과 상호작용을 탐구하는 여정입니다. 미쿠르는 단순한 미생물이 아니라, 모든 생명체와 자연의 순환을 이어주는 중요한 존재로서 표현됩니다. 작가는 미쿠르를 통해, 우리가 미생물을 어떻게 바라봐야 할지에 대한 질문을 던집니다. 코로나 팬데믹을 겪으며 많은 이들이 미생물을 위협과 질병의 상징으로 인식하게 되었지만, 미쿠르는 그저 ‘위험한 존재’에 그치지 않습니다. 그는 자연의 질서를 이루고, 생명과 생명 간의 상호작용을 가능하게 만드는 여행자로서의 역할을 합니다. 이 작품에서 미쿠르는 지구상의 모든 생명체와 밀접하게 연결된 존재로, 그 여정은 공존과 생태적 순환의 여정을 상징합니다. 미쿠르의 여행은 생명력과 변화를 상징하는 동적인 여정입니다. 미쿠르가 등장하는 작품들은 그가 자연과 인간 사이를 오가며, 서로 다른 생명체들과 상호작용하는 과정을 시각적으로 풀어냅니다. 이는 미생물에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시하고, 우리가 보지 못한, 혹은 소홀히 여겼던 자연의 미세하고도 중요한 부분에 대한 깊은 이해를 촉구합니다. 작품을 감상하는 관람자는 미쿠르가 보여주는 능동적이고 협력적인 공존의 모습을 통해, 인간과 자연이 서로 어떻게 평등하게 조화롭게 살아갈 수 있는지에 대해 성찰할 수 있습니다. 미쿠르는 자연의 조화로운 순환의 중심에서, 우리에게 생명의 소중함과 그 안에 숨겨진 깊은 의미를 다시금 일깨워줍니다. **《미쿠르의 여행》**은 우리가 자연과 맺는 관계를 재정의하고, 모든 생명체가 서로 의존하며 살아가는 본질적인 연결을 느끼게 하는 전시입니다.
Lee Ji-young, a graduate of the Graduate School of Illustration at Hongik University, has been creating works centered around microorganisms, the smallest beings in nature. Her art conveys the message that humans and nature should coexist in an equal relationship, and that humans are an integral part of the natural cycle, which she explores through the depiction of tiny microorganisms. Lee Ji-young’s work delves into the profound meaning and beauty of these microscopic creatures, shedding light on the interconnectedness between humans and nature. Through her pieces, she invites the audience to reconsider the relationship between humanity and the natural world from a fresh perspective. In 2025, she will present her distinctive body of work at the “Dongbang’s Window” curated solo exhibition and at the Namsong Art Museum from March 16 to April 18. Her active exhibition history also includes solo shows at Gallery Gangho and Yeobaek Seowon in 2024, as well as group exhibitions like the Dongbang’s Window group show. In the same year, she received awards at the Arirang Art Exhibition and continued her prolific artistic journey. Additionally, in 2023, Lee Ji-young was recognized with an award at the ZHA DEEC International Design Competition, further expanding her artistic reach. Through her art, Lee Ji-young explores the coexistence of humans and nature, inviting the audience to uncover deeper meanings within the minuscule world of microorganisms.
이지영은 홍익대학교 대학원 일러스터레이션과를 졸업한 후, 자연의 가장 작은 존재인 미생물을 주제로 작품 활동을 이어가고 있습니다. 그녀의 작품은 인간과 자연이 평등한 관계에서 공존해야 한다는 메시지를 중심으로, 인간이 자연의 순환 과정의 일부임을 작은 미생물들을 통해 이야기합니다. 미생물이라는 미세한 존재들이 지닌 깊은 의미와 아름다움을 탐구하며, 자연과 인간이 서로 밀접하게 연결되어 있다는 사실을 작품을 통해 풀어냅니다. 이를 통해 관객들에게 자연과 인간의 관계를 새로운 시각으로 바라볼 기회를 제공합니다. 2025년 3월 16일부터 4월 18일까지 동방의창 기획 초대전과 남송미술관 전시에서 그녀의 독특한 작품 세계를 선보일 예정이며, 2024년에는 갤러리강호 초대작가 개인전, 동방의창 그룹전, 아리랑미술대전 공모전 수상, 여백서원 초대작가 개인전 등을 통해 활발한 작품 활동을 이어가고 있습니다. 또한, 2023년에는 IDEEC 국제 디자인부에서 수상하며 작품 세계의 폭을 넓혔습니다. 이지영의 작품은 작은 미생물 속에서 인간과 자연의 공존을 이야기하며, 그 미세한 세계에서 발견할 수 있는 깊은 의미를 관객들에게 전달하고 있습니다.
