감각의 조각
Topic: Emotions and Senses
For my painting subjects,
I mostly address the emotions I have had when interacting with the world.
Focusing more on “senses” that are more fundamental than emotions is
how I communicate my feelings.
The “senses” are where emotions begin I think;
that is, the senses are transformed into emotions and imprinted in memories.
I therefore concentrate on visualizing those senses in describing feelings and memories.
I believe that this will help us go further from expressionism as well.
Style: Pattern and Society
Patterns that match well look nice.
This is because the regular arrangement provides a sense of visual stability,
and the contrast of the repeated colors is striking.
The characteristics of this pattern are similar to the society I envison.
Society often rejects individual characteristics.
Just as shapes in fixed patterns do not accept different forms,
society expects people to follow its customs and standards.
However, if one can successfully adapt to this oppression, they will be able to live without any issues.
Those who are unable to adapt to society, however, will feel that they are out of place within it.
I want to use “patterns” to convey this feeling of alienation.
By using contrasting free forms on structured patterns,
I express the sense of alienation that people feel in our world.
Those free images depicted on the fixed patterns also reflect my feelings toward society.
Through my paintings, which sometimes capture the frustrations of a misfit,
I hope to offer empathy to those struggling to make sense of our world.
Additionally, I wish for this empathy to provide even a small source of comfort
to those navigating a society that can be difficult to understand.
주제: 감정과 감각
나는 주로 세상과 상호작용하며 느껴온 감정을 그림의 주제로 다루고 있다.
내가 감정을 나타내기 위한 방법은 ‘감정’보다 더 근원적인 ‘감각’에 집중하는 것이다.
감정은 감각으로부터 비롯된다.
감각이 감정으로 전환되어 기억에 새겨지는 것이다.
하여, 나는 감각을 시각화하는 것에 집중하여 감정을 나타낸다.
이를 통해 표현주의적 표출에서 더 나아갈 수 있다고 생각한다.
형식: 패턴과 사회
잘 맞추어진 패턴은 보기가 좋다.
규칙적인 배열이 시각적인 안정감을 주고, 반복되는 색의 대비가 화려하기 때문이다.
이러한 패턴의 성질은 내가 생각하는 사회와 유사하다.
사회는 개인의 특성을 거부한다.
짜맞춰진 패턴의 도형들이 자신과 다른 형태의 도형을 받아들이지 않는 것처럼
사회는 개인에게 자신들의 규범과 관습을 요구한다.
이러한 억압 속에서도 성공적으로 사회화만 된다면 문제없이 살아갈 수 있을 것이다.
하지만 사회에 적응하지 못한 개인은 사회 속의 자신이 이질적인 존재라고 느낄 것이다.
나는 이러한 이질감을 나타내는 수단으로 패턴을 활용하고자 한다.
사회와 사회 속에서 개인이 느끼는 이질감을
정형화된 형태의 패턴, 그리고 이와 대비되는 자유로운 형태로 나타낸다.
패턴 위에 표출된 자유로운 이미지는 사회를 대하는 나의 마음이기도 하다.
나는 바란다.
부적응자의 심술이 섞인 나의 작품들을 통해
도무지 이해하기 힘든 부분도 참아가며 살아가는 사람들에게 조금이라도 공감을 줄 수 있기를.
나아가 이 공감이, 이해하기 힘든 사회 속에 섞여 살아가는데 아주 작은 힘이라도 될 수 있기를.
