“Over and Over”
이번 전시 “Over and Over”은 현실 상황이 우울과 부정적인 공간 속 다 끝난 것(over) 같지만, 그러한 공간을 넘어서면(over) 더 나은 상황으로 나아갈 수 있음을 뜻한다. 즉, 현존하는 상황과 현실을 있는 그대로 보지 않고, 또다른 공간과 방법이 존재하고 있을지 모른다는 새로운 대안책을 통해 현실을 긍정하며 이겨낼 수 있도록 관객들의 삶의 존재의미를 다시 일깨워준다. 이번 전시에는 총 3 개의 영상으로 구성되어 있으며, 현실적인 묘사보다는 강렬한 색채감으로 환상을 더하고 3D 를 통해 실제 공간에서 나타낼 수 없는 추상의 형태로 감정과 상황을 묘사한다. 또한, 관객들보다 큰 작업들을 한 공간에서 마주하며 인물보다는 연속적인 배경과 공간의 탐색에 몰입하여 전시하는 실제 공간과 영상의 가상 공간 사이, 그리고 현실과 새로운 방향성에 대한 경계를 모호하게 한다.
<Looking Above, Looking Forward>(2020)은 한없는 포기와 갇혀있는 우울감의 현실을 돌파하여 더 나은 미래현실의 공간을 통해 희망을 제시하며, <Unseen Movement>(2021)는 내면의 열정의 불꽃이 식은 무기력의 원인 탐색과 열정의 가상 순환시스템을 통해 열정의 과정을 그렸고, <Face and Light 1,2>(2022)는 현재와 얽혀있는 과거의 상처와 기억으로부터의 회복 과정을 그렸다.
The exhibition “Over and Over” represents that the current situation of depression and negative space seems to be “over”, but it is possible to have a better way if people go “over” it. Likewise, it positively reminds the audience of the meaning of life by offering a new alternative that may exist in a better space and method without seeing the existing current life and reality as it is. This exhibition, which consists of three 3D videos, describes emotions and situations in 3D in abstract shapes rarely seen in real space, as well as expresses fantasy moods in a variety of intense colors rather than realistic descriptions. In addition, viewers can face huge 3D videos in one space, and immersing the continuous environments and space, not the characters, blurs the boundary between the real and virtual space of videos, and reality and new directions.
<Looking Above, Looking Forward>(2020) shows hope of escaping endless frustration and depression and going to a better future reality space. <Unseen Movement>(2021) depicts the cause of lethargy without inner flame and the process of the virtual circulatory system of passion. <Face and Light>(2022) is two chapter series, describing the recovery process from past wounds and memories entangled with the present.
도재인(Jane Tao)은 미국 시카고와 한국을 기반으로 활동하고 있는 뉴미디어 아티스트이자 3D 아티스트다. 덕성여자대학교에서 시각디자인학과를 나온 후, 시카고 예술대학교(SAIC)에서 아티스트로서의 방향성을 확장시켰다. 사람들이 지나치거나 잊고 있었던 감정과 생각과 같은 무형의 개념을 시각화 하여 다시 돌아볼 수 있도록 표현한다. 가상과 실제 세계의 융합하여 3D 실험 애니메이션, 비디오 설치, 비디오 퍼포먼스 등의 여러 기술들을 실험하며, 시각적인 틀과 개념적인 틀을 깨고 사람들에게 새로운 방향성을 제시한다. 여러 의미를 내포하는 작품을 교훈, 종교, 현실을 통해 영감을 얻고 작품을 제작한다. 현재 실제와 가상의 공존하는 공간 속 관객참여형 인터렉티브 3D 작업을 도전하고 있다. 실제 갤러리,가상 갤러리 모두 전시를 해오고 있다. Kinoumural 미디어 파사드 축제 (폴란드), 아르츠 일렉트로니카 아트 글로벌 갤러리(오스트리아), NewArt City 의 ‘Perennial Sanctuary’ 가상 전시(시카고), ‘Lost in Realtime Like Tears in Rain’ 비디오 퍼포먼스(시카고), Roman Susand 의 ‘Screen Test’(시카고) 상영 및 전시 등에 참여했다. 최근, 다양한 사운드 아티스트와 가수와 협업하기도 하고, Elspread 라는 팀을 작곡가이자 작사가인 강혜지와 함께 만들어
다양한 3D, 무빙 이미지, 미디어 파사드 작업들을 제작하고 있다.
Jane Tao is a new media artist and 3D artist based in Seoul, Korea, and Chicago. With her experience in graphic design at Duksung Women’s University, she expanded her art practices at School of the Art Institute of Chicago(SAIC) in New Media and Art & Technology Studies. Through immersive art, experimental 3D animation, video performance, and video installation, she visualizes intangible concepts such as emotions and thoughts inspired by religion in a dualistic meaning by breaking existing visual and conceptual frames of a story. Currently, she develops a body of 3d digital art that can interact with people and use both virtual and real space. She has exhibited her works in both physical and virtual galleries. She has selected at Kinomural, architectural projection festival (Poland), Ars Electronica Art Global Gallery (Austria), NewArt City virtual exhibition of “Perennial Sanctuary”(Chicago), video performance “Lost in Realtime Like Tears in Rain”(Chicago), and “Screen Test” at Roman Susan (Chicago). Recently, she not only collaborates with various sound artists and singers, but also created an art team “Elspread” with Hyeji Kang who is a composer and lyricist, to create moving image, and media façade artworks.
