    Time + Machine

I am a British-Korean transmedia artist based in London. My work explores our emotion, the illusion and fallibility of images and our slippery relationship with reality, virtuality, and the truth.

During my studies, I was dedicated to pursuing painting practice in a studio. However, becoming a mother and physically impossible to go to the studio space, my interest grew bigger in how we can draw with digital technology on the virtual interface to explore the new possibilities of painting.

I bring my drawings, 3D models or collages into the video game engine Unity and write codes to make painting respond to the presence of audiences. I was fascinated by the fact that machine language enables us to manipulate the images in real-time with lines of codes. So, my paintings are interactive and responsive to the presence of audiences happening in real-time, and always stay in the state of flux.

Combining game engine software Unity, 3D software Maya and VFX software Houdini with traditional painting method, I seek to extend an experience of painting. I knowingly collapse boundaries and push painting into the interactive digital realm, reimagining it as an evolutionary medium.

Ultimately, I want to explore the possibilities of computational technology as a decentralised creative instrument to empower self-discovery and the expression of marginalised voices. Drawing on my own experience as a migrant mother living in London, my interactive installations destabilise a singular view of the world and invites audiences to an accessible and transformative experience of art.
