Corbett Fogue는 아버지가 불치의 폐 질환에 의해 일찍 돌아가신 후, 실존에 대한 기록으로서 숨쉬는 행위를 예술적 매체로 한 작업에 집중하게 되었다.
Inspired by the early death of his father from an incurable lung condition, Corbett Fogue focuses on the act of breathing as an artistic medium to create works that stand as record of existence.

Corbett는 2014년 University of South Florida에서 사진과 미술교육으로 미술석사 (MFA)를 취득하였다. 그는 현재 필라델피아에 거주하고 있으며 미국과 유럽에서 작품을 발표해 왔다.
Corbett earned an MFA in 2014 from the University of South Florida and dual degrees in Photography and Art Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 2011. He currently resides in Philadelphia while continuing to exhibit work across the United States and Europe.

나의 작업은 실존이라는 개념에 대한 철학적 탐구와 관련이 있다. 나는 신체에 대한 매핑 작업을 해왔고, 퍼포먼스, 조각, 비디오, 사진 작업 후 자취를 기록하는 작업을 해왔다. 최근에는 ‘나’라는 대한 개념과 우리가 속한 육체적 형상이 현대 디지털 매체가 주는 많은 경험들에 의해 형성되는 것에 관심이 있다. 나는 죽음과 정화를 넘는 절대자를 애타게 갈구하고 있다. 하지만 생존 방식을 형성하며 무한의 시간을 견뎌낼 수 있는 문화적 이상향을 찾을 수 있다는 생각은 헛된 것이다. 이러한 절박함은 나의 작업의 핵심이다. 나는 확실한 걸 원한다. 나는 옳고 그름을 원하며 오늘과 몇 천 년 후에도 진리인 답을 원한다. 이러한 나의 갈구는 작품에서 종종 코믹한 사이비 종교같은 행위들로 표현될 때가 많다. 하지만 이러한 행위들은 대답을 품고 있으며 나는 이에 무게감을 주기에는 너무 회의적이다. 나는 실존에 대한 진실을 알고 싶지만 포스트모던 사회에서 내가 그 어떤 것도 믿을 수 있을지 의문이다.
My work is tied philosophical investigations of notions of being. I have been mapping the body and traces it leaves behind through performance, sculptures, video, and photography. More recently I have become interested in how notions of self and the physical form we inhabit is molded by our contemporary digital mediation of the majority of experience. I am desperate to find an absolute beyond death and defecation, but thinking I’ll find a cultural ideal that shapes ways of being that can also withstand the infinite march of time is fruitless. Within this desperation is where the core of my work stands. I want rigidity; I want right and wrong, and answers that will be true today as well as thousands of years from now. This often leads to somewhat comical quasi-spiritual actions; but if these actions bare answers, I am too skeptical to give them weight. I want to know the truth of being, but coming to age in the twilight of post-modernity, I doubt I’ll ever believe in a singularity.
Richard Haley

Richard Haley is an artist, teacher, and arts writer working in Detroit, MI. He is currently a Lecturer and Area Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Electronics Art program at Wayne State University. His work has been exhibited in galleries and non-profits in NYC, Brooklyn, LosAngeles, San Francisco, Miami, Detroit, and Berlin. Critical praise of his work has been published in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Bad At Sports. In addition, his scholarly writings have been published in the peer-reviewed journals Body, Space, and Technology, About Performance, and Performance Matters.

“Thinking Of You”는 아티스트가 꿈같은 모던과 포스트모던 디자인의 배경 속에서 중독성있는 디스코 음악에 맞추어 춤과 노래를 부르며 나아가는 작품이다. 익살맞고, 어찌보면 애처로운, 그리고 사랑스러운 노래 가사는 작품 속에서 역설적으로 어우러진다. 그는 관객에게 노래하는 것인가, 아니면 떠다니는 오브제에게 노래하는 것인가, 아니면 그 외의 누군가를 위한 것인가?
모던 디자인의 소비자이자 판매자이며 수집가로서, 나는 매일매일 새로운 우상들에게 집착한다. 이 작품에서 등장하는 오브제들은 내가 아직 마주치지는 않았지만 내가 갈망하고 있는 것들이다. 내가 본격적으로 수집과 판매를 시작하면서, 나는 이것들에게 정말로 최상으로 또한 최악으로 중독되어 버렸다. 이 작품에서 나는 우상들의 문화 가운데 쾌락과 고통 사이에서 존재하고자 애쓰고 있다.
작업을 통해 나는 모호함 속에서 초점을 찾으며 문화적 수수께끼를 풀어가고 있다. 계속되는 현대의 노스탤지어에도 불구하고 나는 고정되거나 예상 가능한 정체성이 아직 없는 새로운 구성을 만들어가고 있다. 나는 아티스트로서 나 자신을 조화시키고 내가 어떻게 문화에 적응해 나갈 수 있는지, 또한 왜 내가 나 자신을 위해, 또한 이 작품을 보고, 소통하고, 생각할 관객을 위해 이것들을 만들고 있는지 이해하려고 애쓰고 있다. 나는 사회에서 어떤 것들이 왜 존재하고 인기를 끄는지, 왜 소비자인 우리들을 위해 만들어지며, 아티스트인 내가 나의 흥미를 위하여 어떻게 그것들을 이용할 수 있을지에 관심이 있다. 따라서 나는 문화적으로 차용된 이미지, 재료와 생산방식으로 작품을 만든다.
Thinking Of You depicts the artist singing and dancing his way through a dreamlike landscape of modern and postmodern design to an infectious disco soundtrack. The playful, somewhat pathetic, and undeniably loving lyrics of the song twist the narrative of the video. Is he signing to the viewer, the objects floating by, or some other unknown?
As a buyer, seller and collector of modern design, I encounter and fetishize new idols on a daily basis. This video makes reference to the objects of my desire that I have yet to encounter. Since starting to seriously collect and sell, it has been truly infectious in the best and worst sense of the word. I see this piece trying to exist in the space between pleasure and pain, all centered on this culture of idols.
My work is presenting a cultural riddle to figure out, providing a focal point that maintains a blurriness. I’m creating a new composition that does not yet have a fixed and predictable identity despite a nagging sense of a contemporary nostalgia. The content I’m working with is reconciling with myself as an artist and trying to understand how exactly I fit into culture and why I’ve made these things for myself and the viewer to look at, interact with and think about. I’m interested in why things exist and rise to popularity in society, why things have been made for us as the consumer, and how I, as an artist, can exploit them for my own intrigue. This generates works of culturally appropriated imagery, materials and modes of production.
Martin Lang
Martin은 테네시 녹스빌에 사는 아티스트이며 현재 University of Tennessee에서 트랜스미디어 전공으로 미술 석사과정에 있다. 그는 Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts at Webster University에서 사진을 공부하였다. 그는 미주리 주의 루이스에서 태어나고 자랐다. 그는 최근 비엔나, 뉴욕, 시카고, 워싱턴 DC, 오크랜드 등에서 개인전과 그룹전을 가졌다.
Martin is an artist living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he is a candidate for a Masters of Fine Arts in Transmedia Design at the University of Tennessee. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Department of Art, Design and Art History in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri where he was born and raised. He has had recent solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally in Vienna, New York, Chicago, Washington DC and Oakland among others.
